Current exhibitions in Paris 2013 are certain to be memorable

From October 2nd 2013, through to January 20th 2014 the Grand Palais will host an exclusive retrospective of the work of Felix Valloton, whose career spanned the 19th and 20th centuries.

Franco-Swiss artist Felix Valloton was born in Lausanne in 1865 and studied art at the acclaimed Academie Julian in Paris, the birthplace of the Les Nabis movement that he was associated with. Les Nabis were a group of post-impressionist avant garde artists, including Paul Gaugin, who sought to integrate daily life into abstract works that were seen as the end product of an artistic process.

Valloton is most well known for his woodcuts, the first of which was a portrait of Paul Verlaine in 1891. During the 1890's he went on to create many more, and was hailed as a major figure in the revival of the woodcut in art. Daily life was apparent in his subject matter which included scenes of women bathing, domestic portrayals and also street scenes including anarchist demonstrations.
