Paris is not only the Eiffel Tower, the Sacré Cœur Basilica and the Champs Elysées, as essential as these legendary landmarks are. The French capital is also a cultural centre. For example, during a few days in October, the city becomes a global hotbed of contemporary art due to several showcases of the highest calibre that are well worth your attention. Here are two major art-oriented events for your diary, ready to be discovered during your stay at the Hotel Opera Lafayette.
If you had the great idea to book a room at our hotel establishment, located just steps from the Opera Garnier and the Gare du Nord, you can make sure you don’t miss an event which each year reaffirms the status of Paris as a global capital of contemporary art: the International Contemporary Art Fair (FIAC). This unique event, which is accessible to both professionals and art aficionados, will be held this year from October 20th to 23rd in the sumptuous surroundings of the Grand Palais. International in scale, FIAC is a trade fair boasting an enviably prestigious reputation. This is the 43rd edition and it’s a safe bet that it will be an outstanding success, as always.
The fair hosts dozens of galleries from more than two dozen countries that represent the works of close to 1,500 artists and this new edition promises to be particularly exciting, with artists and exhibitors from cities that have exceptional contemporary art scenes, such as Sao Paulo, Tel Aviv and London. For 2016, the show will again unfold ‘outside the walls’, presenting works of art in various locations that are some of the most iconic in the city of Paris. Thus, you can indulge your passion for art and discover a host of new works not only in the Grand Palais, but also in the Place Vendome, on the banks of the Seine, and in the tranquil settings of the Jardin des Plantes and the Jardin des Tuileries.
There is no doubt that art will be honoured during October 2016 in the City of Light, and here is further proof. From October 20th to 30th, the Champs Elysees will host the 10th edition of Art Elysées, one of the most influential Parisian events based around modern and contemporary art. Taking place on the most beautiful avenue in the world, the Art Elysées art show presents the latest offerings of close to 80 galleries, displayed in three ephemeral pavilions. These provide visitors with an informative and exhilarating overview of the creativity and originality of the contemporary art, modern art and furniture design scenes. More than just an exhibition, Art Elysées is also an international meeting place for gallery owners, collectors, dealers, artists and art lovers. Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Communication, Art Elysées is an essential experience for anyone who wants to enrich their time in Paris.
