Cruises on the Seine are a fabulous way to enjoy Paris

If you want to sit back and watch Paris glide by as you sip a glass of wine or enjoy a meal then cruises on the Seine are ideal for you - and they are the subject of July's newsletter from Hotel Opera Lafayette, along with our recommendation of one of the finest of the city's many parks.

Relax on the Seine river and picnic in a park

Paris would be nothing without the Seine and the open green spaces of the city's parks. There's a wide choice of companies which offer cruises and we would like to suggest some of them to you. We'd also suggest a visit to Parc des Buttes Chaumont for a lazy afternoon's picnic with a stunning view.

Compagnie des Bateaux-Mouches has plying the Seine for more than 60 years and pioneered the idea of onboard dining while sightseeing. Today they offer cruises by day or by night, with the promise of freshly-prepared food on board.

Bateaux Parisiens gives you the choice of both lunch and dinner cruises as well as hour long sightseeing trips departing from both Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower.

Paris en Scène's brunch cruises offer a prix-fixe menu with or without Champagne and there are special children's menus too. What better way to see some of the city's sights than while sipping Champagne on deck?
Les Vedettes du Pont Neuf started out in 1959 and today boasts a bar and restaurant at its own pier at Pont Neuf along with onboard catering facilities on its modern fleet of boats. The company has an excellent reputation and remains a family business.

Take some time out in one of the best green spaces in Paris

Parc des Buttes Chaumont is in the north-east of Paris, and its elevated location gives you spectacular views over the city, and particularly of Montmartre. Our recommendation is that you take a picnic to enjoy a summer's afternoon with fine food and wine, while enjoying the undulating hills of this park, created for the Universal Exhibition of 1867 on the orders of Napoleon III. There are shady trees in abundance as well as lawns and lakes, all an easy journey by taxi or Metro from Hotel Opera Lafayette.
